SENSEI DAVE OWEN
7th Dan

Dave started his martial arts training 1967 
He rose through the ranks of both the Shotokan Karate International S.K.I. and The Federation of Shotokan Karate F.S.K. before leaving to form S.W.I.K.O.

Dave's shotokan Karate skills and teaching methods have earned the respect of all including various members of other local Karate clubs and organisations whose members and instructors come to train with Dave on many occasions.

Dave is also a qualified professional Boxing coach who has trained alongside the best Pro Boxers in the South West.

SENSEI CHRIS NORTHCOTT
5th Dan

Chris originally started training in 1989 at the age of 10 years Chris  rose through the ranks of The F.S.K. acheiving his 1st Dan in 2000, 2nd Dan in 2003 and 3rd Dan in 2010 
After joining S.W.I.K.O. he passed his 4th Dan in 2016. and in 2022 was awarded his 5th Dan.
Chris has won numerous national titles for Kata & Kumite and has competed in Italy for the FSK international squad.  He has also participated in and won 2 full contact bouts.  

Chris holds an Enhanced DBS and is fully verified through the BMABA with a First Aid and Safeguarding certification.

SENSEI DARREN NOVIS
5th Dan

Darren has been training with Sensei Dave Owen for about 13 years. He achieved his 3rd Dan from 
sensei Aidan Trimble F.S.K.  
His 4th Dan and 5th Dan from Sensei Owen and Sensei Shaw. S.W.I.K.O
Darren is a keen competitor and has won many medals that also includes fighting for the Central Dojo team where they won the F.S.K. Nationals 5 years in a row. "I love training and intend to keep on doing so, an hopefully get my son into Shotokan Karate”. 

Darren is now a senior member and Instructor of S.W.I.K.O and holds an Enhanced DBS

SENSEI MIKE PEAKMAN
4th Dan
Mike started his training in 1973
After joining the K.U.G.B he grading with many of the countries top Sensei including Sensei Tomita and Sensei Terry O Neil (8th Dan).
"During my teenage years and to my regret I gave up Karate :-( But in the early 1980's, after an inspiring chance visit and seeing Sensei Dave Owen in action at his Central Dojo" I knew that I wanted to be back into karate"! 

After many years hard training Mike finally gained his Black Belt in 1991 from The F.S.K. Chief Instructor Sensei Aidan Trimble (8th Dan) later his Second Dan, followed after a few more years later by his 3rd Dan and 4th Dan from The S.W.I.K.O Chief Instructor Sensei Dave Owen (7th Dan)

He has trained with Dave for over 25 years and has gained respect as Senior student and regular instructor at the Central Dojo.

Mike holds an Enhanced DBS and is fully verified through the BMABA with a First Aid and Safeguarding certification.
SENSEI JOHN GOODWIN
4th Dan

S.W.I.K.O. Designated Safeguarding Officer.

If anyone have any concern about the behaviour of any individual/s, anywhere within SWIKO’s clubs or amongst any competitions etc,  Information can be passed on in confidence to him.  John will then contact an organisation called M.A.S.H. (Multi Agency Support Hub). 
They will decide what approach to take, the emphasis being on transparency and sharing of accounts and procedures etc. Its all about freedom of information, recording and reporting or passing on information.
John also holds an Enhanced DBS Certificate (Disclosure and Barring Service) at Devon County Council. John’s employer is Oaklands Park School, Dawlish. 
His  job title is Teaching Assistant for children and young adults with special needs 
The certificate number is 001550041859 and it was issued on the 25th October 2016..

SENSEI PAUL EDWARDS
3rd Dan

Paul began his Karate training at the age of 7 whilst living in Somerset. On moving to Devon at the age of 20 he achieved his first Dan from Dave Sharkey under the association of the E.S.K. (English Shotokan Karate) now the E.K.O. (English karate Organisation). 
Two years later he gained his second Dan again under the E.K.O. In 2008 he began his instructing career with Sensei Mark Biff Shaw at Kingskerswell's Kihaku Club, which he now runs.
Paul has competed at a National level and won a bronze in 2008 for Mens Team Kumite in Nottingham. His other achievements are winning the South West Championship full body contact Kumite.
Paul is a keen all round sports person and his other interests include local competitive boxing, MMA, cycling and is an enthusiastic runner, recently completing the London Marathon and the Totnes 10k for the second year running and the Torbay Half Marathon in a respectable 1hr 39mins with other races planned for both this year and next.

Paul holds an Enhanced DBS and is fully verified through the BMABA with a First Aid and Safeguarding certification.
